Fantastic update from our lovely customer Claudia. So glad that George is feeling the benifits of #gastropro

"My 5year old boy became very difficult and unhappy to ride, not willing to go forward, stopped jumping, head shaking, biting at the girth and nappy to hack, after a week on gastropro my lovely, willing trainable boy was back, as you can see we competed again in dressage, he got 67.41% in a large class. Our last one before using the supplement was a huge fail and I was ready to throw the towel in. George has been broken now for 10months and is improving every day. Thanks to equine science I have my boy back and I’m forever grateful. I will continue to use the gastro supplement and recommended it to everyone!"

Well done to Lowri Ball and Sasha Izmestieva from our Sponsored Team GW Equine on their recent outing at Parwood. 👏🐴

#musclebalance #sfmpro

Yet another consistent day for the most careful little mare Christina III cruising round the 1.20 open at Parwood for 3rd place. Also Sasha Izmestieva's Callive II jumped his first Foxhunter and jumped double clear. Our homebred Streamside Vampiro went for his first outing away from home and proved to be very level headed and a real eye catcher with his lovely movement. Exciting times ahead

Keep your horse hydrated with Electro PRO 🌡️☀️🌡️

10% off for the month of June!! Online code ELECTRO-10

Horse health: Why electrolytes are vital for healthy horses

Electrolytes are minerals dissolved in the blood and tissues of the body, which carry a positive or negative charge and can bind with another ion to make a “salt”. They help to preserve the correct balance of fluids in the body’s cells and are involved in muscle function and the processing of wastes. Deficiencies cause dehydration, impaired performance and may exacerbate clinical problems such as azoturia.

The main electrolytes are:
• Sodium (Na)
• Chloride (Cl)
• Potassium (K)
• Magnesium (Mg)
• Calcium (Ca)
Electrolytes are lost daily through sweating, in urine and faeces. These losses can normally be replaced in the diet. The horse relies on sweating to control body temperature during exercise and it is generally accepted that 90% of a horse’s weight loss after exercise is due to sweating. It is important that this weight loss is monitored and the fluid and electrolyte losses replaced, otherwise poor performance will result.
During periods of exertion such as competition and training, electrolyte losses can be considerable, particularly during hot weather. Even under normal exercise conditions, a 500kg horse could lose 10 litres of sweat during two hours of exercise. This sweat would contain 60g of Chloride, which represents 10% of the total Chloride in the body.
Signs of electrolyte deficiency include:
• Dull coat
• Sunken eyes
• Depression
• Listlessness
• Poor performance
• Dark urine

Providing electrolytes for horses
The horse’s body cannot retain water without the presence of electrolytes, so simply offering water after exercise will not rehydrate your horse. Electrolytes should be added to either the water or the feed.
Adding electrolytes to water to form an isotonic solution (a solution that contain the same electrolyte concentrations as that of the body fluids) will ensure that both fluid and electrolyte losses are replenished and the horse becomes quickly rehydrated. However, after prolonged sweating it will take several days of electrolyte supplementation to completely replenish losses.
Alternatively, if your horse is a poor drinker or there is no opportunity to replace fluid losses during the competition, electrolytes may be fed alongside a small amount of concentrate feed. Electrolyte pastes are also available. However, a large single dose can cause the horse to absorb water from the blood vessels surrounding the gut and actually worsen the effects of dehydration in the short term.
Sodium chloride (salt) should be available for the horse ad lib in the form of a salt block and intake should be monitored, particularly in hot weather or alternatively feeding Equine Science Electro PRO™ daily will ensure you horse receives sufficient sodium chloride.

Giving electrolytes to competition horses
The electrolytes most commonly used in supplements – sodium chloride, calcium carbonate and potassium chloride – are not included in the FEI clean sport prohibited substances list. Neither are other common ingredients, such as sodium bicarbonate or glucose. Simple electrolyte supplements should, therefore, be safe for use in competition horses.

Over the moon with these two super stars. I even had my brave pants on and did a course of 50cm. One comment was that Bobby's legs look like he had wedding dresses on due to the amount of feathers. I can honestly say that the #SFM and #GastroProExtend has changed Bobby.

Calmer Bites work for Bertie!! #equinescience #calmerbites.
I would just like to say I've been using the calmer bites lately to help my boy with separation anxiety. His field mate is currently on box rest and at the start he was unsettled. So I thought I'd give the calmer bites a go.
Honestly he is like a changed horse by himself! He puts in an odd spook whilst out but he isn't screaming the field down, like he would normally do. He's been staying out over night with no fuss at all. Doesn't even scream when he gets around to the stable.
Wish I'd given him one yesterday, as he bolted into me, knocking me flying (scary car). Which is why i missed your call yesterday as I was getting patched up in a&e.
Thank you for calling to see how he is getting along. Will start working him out hacking soon as I have seen the affects from just using them in the field.

Many mares suffer symptoms affecting their performance around the time of oestrus. Despite this, the syndrome is not well understood and there is little comparative research to enable owners and vets to choose the best treatment.

The symptoms:
Oestrus-related problems range from symptoms of pain, aggression and reduced willingness to work to signs of sexual receptiveness that are out of place in the competition ring.
Affected mares may suffer from colic, or resent grooming or tacking up – they may also urinate repeatedly.
Symptoms may be most marked during the first season of the year, or occur at every oestrus, but are normally absent in the winter, when most mares won’t come into season.
It is impossible to know for sure what mares feel as they ovulate, and much evidence relating to ‘marish’ behaviour is anecdotal. However, a proportion of women experience pain linked to ovulation and some mares suffer otherwise unexplained colic at this time, suggesting that ovulation may be painful for them, too.
Another potential source of pain during oestrus is traction on the ovarian ligament, caused by a 4-5cm diameter follicle (egg) hanging into the abdomen. This is usually seen in older mares, as they have heavier ovaries and longer ovarian ligaments.
The hormones associated with oestrus may also cause some of the symptoms. Increased oestrogen acts on the behavioural centres of the brain to induce sexually responsive behaviour, and may be linked to greater sensitivity or aggression. This may reflect the fact that the mare’s biological drive during oestrus is to mate, overriding her training and her willingness to perform.

Supplementation as treatment:
The most common treatments for marish behaviour are herbal or food supplements. Most contain a mixture of herbs, including some that have a mildly sedative effect and others thought to act on the hormonal system. For example, the chaste tree berry (a common ingredient) is thought to act on the pituitary gland to suppress seasonal activity.

Thank you Jane for this lovely Gastro Pro Review 🐴😊🐴

I started to feed Gastro Pro to my Connemara following the various courses of veterinary gastric medication which had not had suitably lasting results.
He improved very soon after starting the Gastro Pro; not only did his girthy symptoms improve but he cheered up in himself, was more keen to work and he started to regain his condition. He was no longer 'sad' in himself and after several months of Gastro Pro is looking great and working well. It has certainly transformed his condition and way of going!
Thank you, Jane

BONE FRACTURES - Sadly It has been brought to our attention that at this time of the year, there seems to be more field accidents as our beloved ones get out probably for the first time in ages. My heart goes out to those that this already has happened to, it is devastating!!! Therefore we must bring awareness for our #NutraPro that deals with bone fractures so effectively and rapidly heals. I personally have had first-hand experience of this and it was unbelievable how the bone filled and gave our filly her racing career back!!!
Please call us for more information on 01184 676715 or 07860 158052 or send us an email for a data sheet on this.
